Things to know

  • My home studio is located up two steep steps.
  • The restroom is inside of my house, also up two steep steps.
  • I have a cat. She doesn’t live in the studio, but if you have severe cat allergies I thought you should know. You’d mostly be exposed by visiting the restroom.
  • There will probably be some sort of mess around the studio or house.
  • Availability is at my discretion.

FAQ

What types of pottery classes do you offer?
I currently offer hand-building classes but plan to offer wheel throwing in the future.

Do I need any prior experience to take a class?
Not at all! The beginner classes are perfect for those with no experience. Sonja will guide you step-by-step through the process.

What should I wear to a pottery class?
I recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. No smocks are provided.

How long is each class?
Most classes are between 2-3 hours. After 3 hours you may keep working but without assistance.

Are materials and tools included in the class fee?
Yes, your fee includes clay, use of tools, glazes, and firing for a set number of pieces. If you’d like to make extra items, additional materials are available for purchase.

Can I keep the pieces I make?
Absolutely! You can take home any pieces that are successfully fired. Firing can take up to 2-3 weeks, so we’ll let you know when your work is ready for pick-up.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?
For multiple class sessions that have begun, refunds may be given for unused classes, minus any used portions. Costs of any discounts will be subtracted from the refund.

Is the studio accessible for people with disabilities?
The studio is located in a small space that unfortunately requires navigating two large steps to enter. The restroom is also inside my home and up two steps as well, which may present challenges for those with limited mobility. That said, I’m committed to making the space as welcoming and inclusive as possible within those limitations, and I’m happy to work with individuals with disabilities or special needs to find creative solutions where I can. I also welcome students with developmental differences, and ask that a parent or support person be present to assist during class. Please don’t hesitate to reach out in advance so we can talk through your specific needs.

Can kids or teens take classes?
Yes! Kids and teens are welcome starting around age 7. The age is really up to your own discretion.

What does uninstructed mean?
Uninstructed studio time means that you will plan your own projects and work on your own. As the owner and studio manager I am always available to answer questions and give you guidance.

Do you sell student pottery? Where can I buy your pottery?
I do not currently have an outlet to sell student work, but am open to ideas. My pottery is sold in various shops in Julian – The Warm Hearth, Crow and Lilac, Volcan Mountain Winery, Patchwork Market, Calico Cider and Main Street Coffee (in Ramona). I also maintain an Etsy shop called StudioKodimer where you can pre-order items that are often out of stock.

How do I sign up for a class?
You can register by phone or email.
